Myjava, town in Slovakia
Myjava is a town in northwestern Slovakia that serves as the administrative center of the Myjava District. The town has a compact center built around a main square, with public buildings, shops, and services all grouped closely together.
Myjava grew from a market settlement in the White Carpathian region into a local trading center over several centuries. In 1848, it became a focal point of Slovak national history when the Slovak National Council was proclaimed here.
Myjava is known as the birthplace of the Slovak uprising of 1848, and this pride is still visible in the town today. The central square features monuments and a local museum dedicated to this chapter of history.
Myjava is reached mainly by road, and parking is available near the town center. Once in the center, everything is within walking distance, so there is no need for a car to get around.
Although Myjava is a small town today, it was here that the first Slovak political body seeking a separate state was established in 1848. This made it a place of pilgrimage for those connected to the Slovak national movement throughout the following century.
