Cableway Tatranská Lomnica - Lomnický štít

Steinbachsee lake and Lomnitzer Spitze form a striking mountain destination in the High Tatras, with the lake located at 1751 meters and the peak rising to 2634 meters. Access to both areas is provided by a cable car system departing from Tatranska Lomnica.

The first documented ascent of Lomnitzer Spitze took place in 1793 when English explorer Robert Townson reached the summit with a local guide. This early achievement marked the beginning of the region's development as a mountain destination.

The peak carries different names across languages and cultures, with Slovak residents calling it Lomnický štít while historical German records used Königsberg. This linguistic variety reflects the region's rich multicultural heritage.

The cable car from Tatranska Lomnica is the primary way to reach these locations and provides quick access to both areas. Visitors should come prepared for changing mountain weather conditions and note that summit visits are time-restricted.

A solar observatory and weather station sits on the summit, continuously collecting meteorological data since 1952. This monitoring facility operates year-round and provides valuable insights into the peak's extreme mountain climate.
