Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant, nuclear power plant
Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear facility with four reactors located in the Nitra Region that produces electricity for the country. The complex features multiple large buildings with tall structures and cooling systems designed to manage the heat generated during operation.
Construction of the first two reactors began in the 1980s during the Czechoslovak era but was halted in 1991. The government later decided to complete the project, and the first unit started operating in 1998.
The plant is named after the nearby town of Mochovce. For local residents, the facility has become a familiar landmark that represents technological progress and is part of the region's identity.
The plant is located between the towns of Nitra and Levice with good access to transportation routes. The facility is secured with fences and monitoring stations, so visitors must follow all safety protocols and restrictions when visiting.
A fourth reactor is currently under construction and expected to begin operation around 2025, significantly increasing the plant's capacity. The newer units incorporate advanced safety standards and modern engineering.
