Sliezsky Dom, hotel in Vysoké Tatry, Slovakia
Śląski Dom is a mountain hotel located in Velická Valley in the High Tatras at approximately 1670 meters (5480 feet) elevation. The building functions as both a guesthouse and mountain hut, offering accommodation, dining, and shelter for hikers and travelers exploring the region.
A shelter above Welica Lake was first built in 1871 but burned down in 1874. The current building was constructed in 1895 and has served visitors and mountaineers since then, though it was destroyed by fire in 1962 and subsequently rebuilt.
The hotel remains open year-round and welcomes hikers and tourists seeking mountain rest and food. Visitors can reach the building via several hiking trails, such as from Tatrzańska Polanka in approximately one and a half hours following the red-marked route.
Pope John Paul II stayed at the hotel in 1995, and his former room was later converted into a memorial space that visitors can see today. This room stands as a quiet testament to a significant historical moment in the location's past.
