Ostrá

Ostrá is a mountain peak in the Velká Fatra range that rises to 1247 meters. Several hiking trails approach the summit, each following the steep ridges and slopes of the massif.

This summit sits in territory that served as a passage between northern and southern Slovakia for centuries. The surrounding region formed part of trade networks connecting distant settlements throughout the medieval period.

The mountain paths around Ostrá maintain their Slovak names, reflecting the regional heritage and connection to the local mountain-dwelling communities.

Hikers should wear sturdy footwear and start early in the day, as mountain weather can shift suddenly at these elevations. Conditions can change significantly within hours, especially during transition seasons.

On clear days, the view extends across to both the Low Tatras and the Great Fatra, with sight lines reaching up to 30 kilometers away. These distant vistas make it a favourite spot for landscape photography.
