Bojnice Castle, Medieval château in Bojnice, Slovakia
Bojnice is a castle on a travertine hill in central Slovakia featuring round towers, steep roofs, and decorated windows in the Gothic Revival style. The structure combines different building phases and shows a blend of older and newer architectural elements.
The castle began as a wooden fortress in 1113 and was gradually transformed into stone over the following centuries. This transformation made it a more permanent structure that survived numerous historical changes.
The castle displays furnishings and artworks that reflect the lives of the noble families who lived here. These objects show how wealthy inhabitants arranged their spaces and spent their daily time.
Visiting requires climbing the hill, but the paths can be steep and uneven, especially during wet weather. Comfortable shoes with good grip are important for safely exploring the location.
Beneath the castle lies a natural limestone cave with a deep well that fed from underground springs. This hidden feature shows how the hilltop location provided inhabitants with access to fresh water.
