Tomanovské sedlo, Mountain pass between Slovakia and Poland in Western Tatras.
Tomanovské sedlo is a mountain saddle in the High Tatras situated at 1,686 meters elevation, separating the peaks of Ciemniak to the south from Tomanowy Wierch Polski to the north. The pass sits directly on the main ridge and forms a noticeable depression in this exposed section of the range.
The saddle served as a trade route between the Podhale and Liptov regions before World War II, used regularly by merchants and miners crossing the mountains. This historical passage was an important connection across the range for centuries.
The pass represents a meeting point of two distinct geological formations, with northern limestone connecting to southern metamorphic rocks at its location.
Access to this saddle has been restricted on both the Polish and Slovak sides since 2009 due to environmental protection measures in place. Hikers should check current conditions and access rules before planning a visit.
The pass marks the second lowest point along the main Tatra ridge, after Palenica Jałowiecka, with distinctive views toward Świnica peak.
