Kostolecká tiesňava

Kostolecká tiesňava is a limestone gorge in the Považská Bystrica district that stretches over 500 meters with sheer rock walls on both sides. The Manín stream has carved through the stone over countless years, leaving behind impressive vertical formations and natural passages.

The gorge received official protection status in 1970 as authorities recognized its geological importance for the region. This early conservation decision ensured the natural formations would be preserved for future study and enjoyment.

The site holds importance for Slovak geological research, contributing to understanding regional rock formation processes and natural limestone evolution patterns.

The reserve is accessible by an asphalt road suitable for cars and buses, with parking areas near the main entrances. Sturdy shoes are recommended since the ground is uneven and can be slippery after rain.

The site contains Kostolecký dom, a massive rock overhang that resembles a natural shelter carved into the cliff face. This striking formation draws climbers and researchers who study its unusual geology and formation.
