Molpír

Molpír is an archaeological site on a mountain in the Smolenice area, featuring multiple sections connected by stone gates. The settlement spreads across sloped terrain with visible walls and earthen ramparts that divided different living and working zones.

The settlement began in the late Iron Age when people fortified this hillside with stone construction. It was later abandoned, but left behind remains that still show the structure of a defensive installation.

The site shows traces of specialized metalworking and bronze craftsmanship that hint at skilled inhabitants. Walking through the different courtyards today, you can sense how people organized their lives around separate functional areas.

The site is accessible on foot from the village of Smolenice via a marked educational path. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the terrain is uneven and slopes steeply in places.

The settlement contained a large water cistern for collecting rainwater, showing that residents developed water conservation techniques. Such a system was noteworthy for its time and hints at practical knowledge about survival.
