Ostrý Kameň Castle

Ostrý Kameň Castle is a medieval fortress built on a hilltop near Buková village in the Trnava District. The ruins display stone walls, a bastion structure, and an elevated gate that once commanded views over the surrounding terrain.

The castle was built in the 13th century as a royal border fortress protecting the trade route between Buda and Prague. Its elevated position made it a key control point along this important medieval corridor.

The castle architecture demonstrates medieval military engineering with its strategic positioning, square gate tower, and elevated entrance design.

The route begins at a water reservoir with yellow hiking marks leading to Brezinka cottage, then continues on red-marked trails. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the terrain can be uneven and exposed to the sun.

The castle grounds contain specific plant species that indicate the ecological value of this mountain location in western Slovakia.
