Church of St George

The Church of St George stands on a hill in the eastern part of Kostoľany pod Tribečom, featuring a simple one-nave structure with pre-Romanesque origins.

The church dates back to the late 9th or early 10th century, making it one of the oldest surviving religious structures in Slovakia with Great Moravian origins.

The interior walls display medieval frescoes from the 11th century depicting scenes from Mary's life, including the Annunciation, Visitation, and Nativity.

The church maintains regular visiting hours, with special arrangements required during November 1st and 2nd through the local Parish Office administration.

The frescoes were created using an unconventional technique where paint was applied directly to wet walls, connecting them stylistically to the Vysegrad codex.
