Svoradova jaskyňa, Cave entrance at Zobor peak, District of Nitra, Slovakia.
Svoradova Jaskyňa is a cave at the Zobor peak with an entrance hall extending about 6.5 meters into the mountain. Beyond this space, a narrow corridor continues deeper, opening into a vertical chimney structure within the rock.
The cave formed through karst erosion by water over extended periods. A detailed geological survey in 1974 documented its internal structure and composition for scientific study.
A stone altar for Saint Svorad marks the entrance, honoring the Benedictine monk who lived as a hermit in this remote location. The site draws visitors interested in the spiritual connection between the monk and this mountain dwelling.
A walking path of about 400 meters leads from the Medical Institute Zobor bus stop in Nitra to the cave entrance. The route is straightforward and takes visitors upward on the mountainside above the city.
The interior stays about 7 degrees Celsius year-round, regardless of season. Above ground, visible karst formations were shaped by centuries of rainwater drainage through the rock.
