Calvary in Vysoké Tatry, Sacred grove at Pekná vyhliadka in Vysoké Tatry, Slovakia.
The Calvary in Vysoké Tatry is an art trail with fourteen stations made from wood and granite blocks that winds about one kilometer through a forest path. The installations are positioned at elevations between 1100 and 1400 meters on the mountainside.
The project was created between 2010 and 2015 through the collaboration of fourteen artists from different faiths. This international cooperation brought together diverse artistic traditions to form a shared mountain art path.
Each station depicts a moment from Christ's Passion, but the artworks were interpreted very differently by various artists. The sculptures reflect individual perspectives on suffering and sacrifice rather than presenting a single message.
The trail is accessible from Starý Smokovec and follows a marked route suitable for families with children and those using strollers. Several rest stops are spaced along the path, allowing visitors to pause and take in the surroundings.
This art collection sits at the highest elevation of any Calvary in Central Europe, offering panoramic views of the High Tatras mountains while exploring spiritual themes. The combination of religious subject matter with a mountain setting creates an unexpected context for viewing contemporary art.
