Outamba-Kilimi National Park

Outamba-Kilimi National Park spans 1,000 square kilometers of savanna woodland, grasslands, and gallery forests across two distinct sections divided by the Little Scarcies River.

The territory transformed from a game reserve in 1974 to Sierra Leone's first national park in 1986, receiving formal recognition through official gazette in 1995.

The Susu people maintain their traditional lifestyle in the buffer zone surrounding the park, contributing their knowledge to conservation and park management activities.

Visitors can access the park via a 6-hour drive from Freetown to Kamakwie, followed by a crossing on the Kabba Ferry to reach the park entrance.

The park houses nine primate species, including western chimpanzees, along with hippos and elephants that frequent Lake Idrissa's perennial waters.
