De La Fratta, Medieval tower on Mount Titano, San Marino.

De La Fratta is the second defensive tower of San Marino, built on Mount Titano at 756 meters elevation with thick stone walls and fortified structures. The tower can be reached through marked paths from the city center and offers views of the defensive layout.

This tower was built in 1253 on the site of a former Roman fort to protect San Marino from outside attack. It remained a key defensive position for the republic over the following centuries.

Inside this tower visitors can see a weapons museum that shows how important military strength was to this small country's survival. The collection tells the story of local defense traditions through objects displayed in the old stone rooms.

Climbing to this tower requires sturdy footwear and reasonable fitness due to steep pathways on the mountain. Visiting on clear days is best since weather affects both safety and the views you can enjoy from above.

This tower appears on the flag of San Marino alongside two companion towers, making it a national symbol recognized worldwide. The three towers together represent the foundation of the republic's independence and identity.
