Great Mosque of Touba

The Great Mosque of Touba features seven minarets, three large domes, and eleven smaller domes, reaching a height of 86.80 meters above ground level.

The construction of this religious center started in 1932 under Mamadu Mustafâ Mbacke's leadership, paused between 1939 and 1947, and completed its first phase in 1963.

The mosque serves as the central gathering place for the Mouride brotherhood, with the tomb of founder Sheikh Amadou Bamba located within its grounds.

The mosque accommodates 7,000 worshippers and maintains a library containing 160,000 volumes, accessible through organized tours from the city of Dakar.

The Grand Magal pilgrimage brings millions of followers annually to this mosque, making it the largest religious gathering in Senegal's Diourbel region.
