Souq Khan al-Harir, Medieval caravanserai in Ancient City of Aleppo, Syria.

Souq Khan al-Harir is a medieval caravanserai in Aleppo's ancient city featuring stone construction with arches and vaulted ceilings organized across multiple levels. The building contains separate sections for storing merchandise and accommodating traveling merchants, all designed according to traditional Islamic architectural principles.

This caravanserai was built during the medieval period as a trading station for merchants moving goods along the Silk Road between Asia and Europe. It became part of Aleppo's commercial infrastructure that made the city one of the major trading hubs of the Islamic world.

The caravanserai housed merchants trading in silk and other fine goods, making it a meeting place where traders from different regions conducted business together. Its layout and purposes show how Aleppo functioned as a crossroads where people from many places gathered to buy and sell.

The structure sits in central Aleppo and can be reached from several directions through the old market streets, making it easy to visit while walking through the city. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the surrounding market has cobblestone paths and the building itself contains stairs and level changes throughout.

The building served as a combined marketplace, warehouse, and inn all in one structure, providing merchants everything they needed during their travels. This multifunctional design was common for caravanserais, but the scale and craftsmanship of this particular complex made it exceptional among trading centers of its era.
