Al-Madina Souq

Al-Madina Souq is a covered marketplace in Aleppo's old city, divided into many specialized trading sections separated by stone arches and wooden beams. Shop-lined passages run through the entire complex, creating passages on both sides of each thoroughfare.

The marketplace grew over centuries as a key trading hub between Asia and Europe, with major expansions beginning in the 15th century. Successive enlargements shaped its current layout as demand for commercial space increased.
