Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, Buddhist temple on Doi Suthep Mountain, Chiang Mai, Thailand
The temple complex features a central golden chedi surrounded by smaller shrines, pagodas, and ceremonial structures at an elevation of 1,073 meters.
The temple's construction began in 1383 under King Keu Naone of the Lanna Kingdom to house a sacred relic believed to be Buddha's shoulder bone.
The temple serves as a primary meditation center where Buddhist monks conduct daily rituals and teach traditional meditation practices to visitors.
Visitors can reach the temple via a 15-kilometer drive from Chiang Mai, followed by either climbing 306 steps or taking a tram to the main entrance.
The temple grounds contain a model of the Emerald Buddha and a statue of Ganesh, representing a mixture of Buddhist and Hindu religious elements.
