Wat Pha Lat

Wat Pha Lat sits nestled within dense forest on the slopes of Doi Suthep mountain, featuring ancient pavilions with ornate Buddha statues surrounded by natural streams and moss-covered stupas that integrate seamlessly with the lush woodland environment.

Built during the 14th century reign of King Keuna, this temple holds legendary significance as one of the sacred stops where the white elephant carrying Buddha's relic paused during its mystical journey that led to the construction of multiple temples.

The temple serves as an active monastic community where resident monks practice Theravada Buddhism through daily meditation, prayer ceremonies, and humble rituals that emphasize spiritual development and harmony with the natural surroundings rather than elaborate displays.

Visitors can reach the temple by car or motorcycle from Chiang Mai city, or alternatively take the scenic Monk's Trail hiking path from near Chiang Mai University, which takes approximately 45 minutes through forest terrain.
