Doi Suthep, Mountain summit in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand

Doi Suthep rises 1,676 meters above sea level, featuring deciduous forests below 1,000 meters and evergreen forests at higher elevations.

The Buddhist temple Wat Phra That Doi Suthep was established in 1383 on the mountain summit to preserve a sacred relic of Buddha.

Visitors climb 309 stone steps decorated with serpent figures, leading to the temple complex where Buddhist ceremonies and rituals take place.

The mountain stands 15 kilometers from Chiang Mai city center, accessible by red shared taxis that regularly depart from Huay Kaew Road.

The geology consists of Lower Carboniferous granite formed 330 million years ago and lifted during the Himalayan mountain formation period.
