Chiang Mai Night Safari

Chiang Mai Night Safari is a wildlife park divided into three zones where visitors can see over 400 animal species under specialized lighting designed for nighttime viewing. Tram-guided routes wind through each section, allowing close observation of the animals in their habitats.

The park opened in 2006 as Thailand's first nocturnal wildlife facility, introducing a new way for visitors to experience animals after dark. This opening marked a turning point in the region's approach to wildlife tourism and conservation.

The park's structures reflect Thai architectural styles, and traditional dance performances take place each evening as part of the visitor experience. These shows are woven into the layout, creating moments where culture and nature viewing naturally intersect.

The park works best when visited in early evening when lighting conditions are ideal and animals are most active. Wear comfortable shoes since tram rides are lengthy and there are walking sections between different areas of the park.

Tigers, lions, and Asian elephants roam freely throughout the park while visitors ride in trams to observe them from a safe distance. This arrangement reverses the typical zoo experience, with animals moving naturally in wider spaces rather than being confined to small enclosures.
