Wat Ratcha-orasaram, Buddhist temple in Bang Khun Thian, Thailand.
Wat Ratcha-orasaram is a Buddhist temple in the Bang Khun Thian district on the southern edge of Bangkok, containing several buildings and shrines. The compound features carved details, wall paintings of Buddhist legends, and gilded figures on its roofs and doorframes.
The temple received its registration as a historic site due to its construction dating from the late Ayutthaya or early Rattanakosin period. Later renovations preserved the traditional proportions and materials of the original construction.
The temple serves as a central location for Buddhist ceremonies, religious festivals, and community gatherings, where local residents participate in traditional rituals.
Visitors must cover shoulders and knees and remove shoes before entering the buildings. The temple sits away from central tourist routes and is often quiet on weekdays.
Some smaller shrines in the courtyard display wood carvings in faded colors that rarely survive in renovated temples. These works come from local craftsmen and reflect regional techniques from the 19th century.
