Wat Phra That Dum, Buddhist temple in Ngio Don, Thailand
Wat Phra That Dum is a temple featuring a central brick prang standing about 8 meters tall on a laterite foundation, with false doors carved on three sides. The structure combines brick and stone in a solid construction that clearly shows its age and weathering.
The temple was built in the late 10th century as a Khmer structure originally featuring three towers, of which only the central prang survives today. The original multi-tower layout reflects the Khmer architectural traditions of that era.
The structure displays Hindu-influenced carvings in sandstone, particularly a lintel in Baphuon style showing Kala surrounded by animals. These decorations blend Buddhist and Hindu traditions from an earlier era.
The temple sits a short distance from Sakon Nakhon and can be reached via the road toward Phatthana Suksa School. Access is straightforward by car or on foot, as the route is clearly marked from town.
Nine lotus-bud sao nang riang pillars stand at the site, indicating an ancient walkway similar to those at Phanom Rung temple. These pillars suggest a larger architectural complex than what remains visible today.
