Sirindhorn Museum, Dinosaur museum in Sahatsakhan, Thailand
Sirindhorn Museum is a natural history museum in Sahatsakhan dedicated to fossils and rocks found in the area. Eight exhibition zones display dinosaur skeletons and geological specimens collected from local excavations.
The museum's collection began with dinosaur bones discovered at a temple in 1994. Systematic excavations by the Department of Mineral Resources that followed revealed this region contained an important fossil site.
The museum draws students and visitors from around the world interested in understanding Thailand's prehistoric past and how scientists reconstruct ancient ecosystems. The displays show daily connections between fossils found here and what they tell us about life millions of years ago.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday with different admission prices for Thai nationals and foreign visitors. Group tours are available when arranged in advance.
The museum houses a thigh bone from a dinosaur species that lived about 209 million years ago, making it one of the oldest known types. It also holds the largest collection of bones from a specific dinosaur species ever found in Thailand.
