The concrete and mosaic Buddha statue rises 59 meters into the sky, making it the fourth tallest Buddhist statue in Thailand.
Initiated by the fifth abbot of Wat Burapha Phiram temple in 1973, the construction required eight years and seven million baht to complete.
The statue bears the formal name Phra Phuttha Rattana Mongkhol Maha Muni, which translates to Great Buddha, the Precious and Auspicious Sage.
Visitors should wear modest clothing when entering the temple grounds, and the statue remains visible from multiple vantage points throughout Roi Et city.
The sculpture deviates from traditional Buddha statue proportions, featuring distinctive architectural elements that set it apart from other religious monuments.
