That Kong Khao Noi, Historic Buddhist pagoda in Tat Thong, Thailand.
That Kong Khao Noi is a Buddhist pagoda in Tat Thong, northeastern Thailand. The square brick construction shows doorway patterns on each side and sits surrounded by a low wall of the same material.
The pagoda was built during the final decades of the Ayutthaya period, between the years 1600 and 1700. Later it received protected status under Thai heritage legislation.
The site takes its name from a royal rice container, reflecting a link between kingship and sustenance. Today worshippers come to pray and meditate before the Buddha image.
The site lies two kilometers off the main Yasothon-Udon Thani road and is open throughout the day. A visit works best in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is less intense.
According to local tradition, a young farmer built the pagoda out of remorse after an incident with his mother during a time of great hardship. This story connects the site to themes of repentance and family duty.
