Wat Prachakhom Wanaram, Buddhist temple in Si Somdet, Thailand
Wat Prachakhom Wanaram is a temple featuring a prominent sandstone stupa measuring 19 meters tall and 40 meters wide, decorated with golden towers on its exterior. The structure consists of several levels housing detailed wall paintings that accompany visitors as they move through the temple.
Construction began in 1992 following a Buddhist master's visit to Borobudur temple in Indonesia, which inspired the decision to build a similar structure here. This Indonesian visit shaped the temple's design and purpose.
The walls display detailed murals showing scenes from Buddha's life and stories of respected monks arranged across five levels. These paintings tell stories that visitors can directly see and understand as they walk through the temple.
The temple is open daily and free to visit, making it accessible to visitors at any time. It sits about 25 kilometers from the center of Roi Et and is reachable via the main highway.
The stupa houses Buddhist relics at its center, and its uppermost section was crafted from about 1.5 kilograms of pure gold. This golden top makes the temple particularly visible in sunlight and sets it apart from other structures in the area.
