Phanom Sawai Forest Park, Forest park in Chuea Phloeng and Na Bua, Thailand
Phanom Sawai Forest Park is a forest park in Chuea Phloeng and Na Bua where three mountain peaks rise from flat rice farming plains. Stone courtyards dot the landscape between the peaks and structure the way visitors move through the area.
The park was established in 1984 to protect remnants of ancient volcanic activity that shaped the region. Stone formations throughout the site mark where geological forces once created the landscape.
The site holds nine sacred Buddhist objects, including the Buddha Surindramongkol statue and more than 1,080 bells placed at temple entrances, which visitors come to revere. These religious elements blend into the landscape and shape how people experience this place.
Reaching the mountain peaks requires climbing more than 200 steps, with viewing platforms along the way and at the top offering panoramic views of rice fields. Sturdy shoes and a bit of stamina are helpful, as the climb can be tiring and is most rewarding when weather is clear.
The three peaks stand as the only elevated landforms rising from Surin Province's flat agricultural plains, creating a striking focal point in an otherwise level landscape. On clear days, visitors can see the distant stone fortress of Phanom Rung from the summit.
