Wat Ram Poeng, Buddhist meditation center in Suthep, Thailand.
Wat Ram Poeng is a meditation center in northern Thailand featuring wooden buildings decorated with hand-painted gold details and pairs of white dragons at entrances. The grounds provide individual rooms where practitioners alternate between walking and sitting sessions to develop mindfulness practice.
The center began teaching insight meditation in 1973 under Phra Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo. Leadership passed to Phra Suphan Ajinnasilo, who continued this meditation tradition.
Visitors here wear white clothing and keep silence during their stay, creating a calm and focused environment throughout the grounds. Morning chanting and group rituals give the daily routine a shared rhythm that connects individual practice with collective life.
Visitors can stay in individual rooms and participate in structured daily meditation sessions. It helps to arrive early so you can learn the routine and find your way around the grounds.
The center also functions as a study office for Pali scriptures and helps preserve palm leaf manuscripts. This work connects traditional Buddhist scholarship with keeping ancient texts available for future generations.
