Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, Buddhist temple on hilltop in Mae Hong Son, Thailand.
The temple complex features two large white chedis that dominate the hilltop and remain visible throughout the Mae Hong Son valley at 1500 meters elevation.
The temple construction began in 1860 with the first chedi, followed by a second one in 1874 when Mae Hong Son gained city status.
The temple preserves the architectural traditions of Shan Buddhism through its structures, with influences from both Thai and Burmese religious design elements.
Visitors can reach the temple via a 300-step staircase from the base or take a motorcycle taxi service for approximately 120 baht round trip.
Morning mists fill the valley below the temple, creating a natural phenomenon where the temple appears to float above a white sea of clouds.
