Wat Maha Pruettharam Worawihan

Wat Maha Pruettharam Worawihan, Buddhist temple in Bang Rak District, Bangkok, Thailand.

Wat Maha Pruettharam Worawihan is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok's Bang Rak District featuring a 19-meter golden Reclining Buddha as its centerpiece. The complex includes three main prayer halls and four spires that show elements of Khmer architectural style.

The temple was originally known as Wat Tha Kwian but received its current name and royal status during King Chulalongkorn's reign in the late 1800s. This elevation reflected the site's growing importance in Bangkok's religious landscape.

The murals inside the ordination hall show Buddhist teachings through detailed scenes that visitors can observe and understand directly. These visual representations help people connect with fundamental spiritual practices in a way that feels immediate and personal.

Visitors should wear modest clothing and remove shoes before entering any buildings on the grounds. Following these basic expectations helps maintain respect for the sacred space and its traditions.

The temple houses the second largest Reclining Buddha statue in Bangkok, completely covered in gold leaf. Few visitors realize that another even larger version exists elsewhere in the city.
