Bang Saen, Beach resort in Saen Suk, Thailand
Bang Saen is a seaside resort on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand in Saen Suk, known for its roughly 2.5-kilometer (1.5-mile) sandy beach. The shore runs in a gentle arc along the coast, where small fishing boats anchor alongside swimming zones.
The settlement grew from a fishing village into a popular weekend destination for city dwellers during the mid-20th century. After Burapha University opened in 1955, the community expanded steadily as visitors and students arrived.
Students from the nearby university spend their free afternoons at the shore, creating a lively atmosphere on weekdays. In the evenings, families gather for dinner at food stalls along the promenade while children play in the shallow water.
Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent all along the shoreline, with prices varying by location and season. Weekends are noticeably busier than weekdays, so visitors seeking quiet should consider coming midweek.
The university aquarium houses a complete Bryde's whale skeleton found along the coast. During the cooler months from October to February, the water sometimes clears enough for visitors to see the seafloor below.
