Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, National park in Phitsanulok Province, Thailand

Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park spreads across mountainous terrain with four different forest types and rocky cliffs that reach elevations around 1,800 meters (5,900 feet). The park offers hiking trails, camping grounds, and a museum, with flowing streams and dense vegetation that change with the seasons.

The area served as a military base between 1968 and 1972 during a period of political conflict, before the government established it as a national park in 1984. This shift from a strategic location to a protected space remains a defining part of how the park is understood today.

The Thailand-Communism Museum inside the park displays personal items, medical tools, and records from a period of political tension that touched this region. Visitors can see how these events shaped local memories and continue to matter to people today.

The park is reachable from Phitsanulok and offers tent camping as well as lodging options at different price levels depending on comfort needs and budget. Visitors should prepare for wet and muddy conditions, especially during the rainy season, and wear sturdy shoes for mountain trails.

The Lan Hin Taek area features unusual stone formations scattered across an open field, creating natural patterns across the mountainside. These rock shapes formed through natural erosion over time and create a somewhat otherworldly setting that many visitors miss.
