Phu Ruea National Park, National park in Loei Province, Thailand
Phu Ruea National Park is a protected area in Loei Province featuring mixed forests, mountains, and valleys within the Phetchabun mountain range. The landscape includes hiking trails, waterfalls, and diverse habitats for native animals and plant species.
The government established the park in 1979 to protect the mountain's ecosystems and native wildlife from development. This designation marked the beginning of formal conservation efforts for the region's natural resources.
The name comes from a boat-shaped rock formation visible at the summit, showing how locals name geographical features after familiar shapes they see in nature.
The best time to visit is between November and February when weather is cooler and more comfortable for hiking and walking. During these months wildlife is easier to spot and trails are less slippery.
The park contains Huai Phai waterfall, which cascades down through multiple levels surrounded by deciduous forests. During rainy periods the waterfall carries more water and becomes especially dramatic.
