Phu Soi Dao, Mountain peak at Thailand-Laos border.
Phu Soi Dao is a mountain peak straddling the Thailand-Laos border that rises to 2,120 meters in elevation. Its slopes are densely covered with pine and birch forests, cut through by numerous waterfalls that cascade down the mountainside.
The mountain has long marked the natural boundary between Thailand and Laos, serving as a key reference point during historical border disputes. Its geographic position made it an important landmark when territorial divisions between the two nations were being defined.
Local communities from both Thailand and Laos maintain traditional practices of forest conservation and participate in annual mountain ceremonies.
To use the hiking trails, visitors need permission from the park authorities, which should be obtained before arriving. The period from December to February offers the most favorable climbing conditions, with drier weather and better visibility.
Two plant species found nowhere else on Earth grow on the mountain: Utricularia spinomarginata and Utricularia phusoidaoensis. These rare species make it internationally significant for botanists and conservation researchers.
