Phu Soi Dao National Park, National park in Uttaradit Province, Thailand
Phu Soi Dao is a national park in Uttaradit Province in northern Thailand. The terrain consists of forested slopes and highland meadows with several peaks exceeding 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) in height.
The Thai government declared this area a national park in May 2008. The decision aimed to protect the forests and watersheds from logging.
The name Phu Soi Dao translates as Star Mountain, referring to how villagers once used its high peak for night sky observations. Visitors today still find clear views after dark when weather permits.
Several hiking trails run through the park, with the climb to the main summit taking around five hours. Visitors should bring warm clothing as temperatures drop considerably at higher elevations.
The elevation range of the park allows bamboo forests and rhododendron groves to grow side by side. Some visitors see fog banks in the morning that hang between the trees.
