Khlong Saeng Wildlife Sanctuary

Khlong Saeng Wildlife Sanctuary is a large protected area in Surat Thani Province consisting of dense forests, rivers, and varied habitats where many animals live. The landscape includes mountain terrain and waterways that form the backbone of these different ecosystems.

The sanctuary was established to protect the forest and wildlife of the region in their natural state. A major dam built in the 1980s changed parts of the landscape by flooding valleys and creating a large lake within the protected area.

Local communities living near the sanctuary actively participate in conservation work and guide visitors through traditional forest knowledge. These residents maintain a strong connection to the land and demonstrate how people can live alongside the protected areas without damaging them.

The best way to explore the reserve is by boat through the waterways, which depart from local piers. Trips typically take several hours, so wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection.

The sanctuary contains mountain ranges that provide habitats for rare animal species found only in this southern region. These isolated elevated areas serve as critical refuges for wildlife that lives nowhere else.
