Nang Thong Beach

Nang Thong Beach is a dark-sand shoreline in Khao Lak where black grains contrast sharply with white wave foam and create the beach's distinctive appearance. The strand runs roughly one kilometer along the coast with a gentle slope toward the water, providing space for both visitors and local fishing vessels.

The surrounding area saw significant tin mining activity from the 1800s onward, which shaped the region's economic development and infrastructure. The dark sand itself carries remnants of this mining heritage through its mineral composition.

Fishing boats rest along the shore, showing the community's deep connection to the sea. In the early morning, visitors can watch fishermen preparing their vessels and sorting their daily catch.

The beach stays open year-round with parking nearby and waterfront restaurants serving fresh seafood for visitors. The water conditions are generally calm, though it is smart to check local information before entering the sea.

The black sand contains tin ore particles that shimmer with a metallic sheen when sunlight hits them, giving the beach an unusual visual quality. This mineral richness is a direct result of the area's mining past and makes this shoreline geologically distinct.
