Ao Phang-nga National Park, National park in Phang Nga Province, Thailand

Ao Phang-nga National Park is located in Phang Nga Province along the Andaman Sea, containing roughly 40 islands with limestone cliffs rising steeply from the water. The area consists of open bays, narrow passages, and dense mangrove forests that together form a complex coastal system.

The park was established as a protected area in 1981 to safeguard the coastline and its geological features. The limestone formations were shaped over millions of years through ancient sea processes and water erosion.

Fishing communities have lived in the area for generations, moving through mangrove channels in small boats as part of their daily routines. Their presence shapes the character of the bay and reflects how people have adapted to life among the water and islands.

The best time to visit is from November to April when the weather is stable and the sea conditions are calmer. Boat tours depart from several starting points including Phuket, Krabi, or Phang Nga town, depending on where you want to begin.

The area contains one of the world's largest intact mangrove forest systems, which serves as a crucial nursery for countless fish species. These wetlands also provide refuge for various bird species and other wildlife that are difficult to spot elsewhere.
