Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, Animal sanctuary in Paklok, Thailand
The refuge spans twelve hectares of forested terrain with feeding areas, bathing pools and shaded rest zones where rescued animals spend their days without visitor contact.
Founder Montri Todtane opened the facility in 2019 after experience with similar projects in Chiang Mai, rescuing more than a dozen animals from various regions across Thailand since inception.
The refuge works to end traditional elephant labor practices while creating alternative income sources for mahuts who previously depended on riding tourism for their livelihood.
Half-day guided sessions depart mornings and afternoons with advance booking required, transport from Phuket accommodations between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM included, comfortable footwear recommended.
Visitors can observe elephants throwing mud and spraying dust on each other, behaviors that serve natural skin care and temperature regulation purposes.
