Than Bok Khorani National Park, National park in Ao Luek district, Krabi, Thailand
Than Bok Khorani is a national park in Krabi Province, Thailand, covering mangrove forests, limestone cliffs, tropical rainforest, and pools fed by underground springs. The park sits near the town of Ao Luek and is crossed by a network of cave systems and freshwater streams that run through the rock.
The park was officially established in 1998 to protect the plant and animal life and rock formations of the area. Long before that, the land had been known and used by local communities who relied on its forests and water.
The caves and water sources in this park have been part of daily life for people in the region for generations. Visitors today can watch small boats move through narrow rock passages that once served as natural routes through the land.
The park can be explored on foot along marked trails or by boat through the cave passages, so it helps to decide in advance which areas you want to see. Comfortable shoes are a good idea, and setting aside at least half a day gives enough time to move between the forested and water sections.
Two of the caves in the park are connected, and visitors can paddle through them by kayak, moving through underground chambers and narrow rock passages. This makes it possible to reach parts of the park that cannot be accessed any other way.
