Wat Phra That Chom Sak, Buddhist temple in Ban Du district, Thailand

Wat Phra That Chom Sak is a Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai province featuring golden structures within an oval-shaped compound that sits above surrounding rice paddies. The buildings are arranged around the temple grounds with views stretching across the rural landscape beyond.

This temple stood in the region before the Ngoenyang Kingdom was established in 638 and remained important during the formation of the Lanna Kingdom in 1292. Its long presence reflects the enduring role of Buddhism in this area across centuries.

Senior monks called Krubas form the spiritual core of this place, and you will see golden statues honoring their teachings throughout the grounds. These representations reflect how deeply their guidance is woven into the daily rhythm of worship here.

The temple sits west of Chiang Rai and is reachable via the bypass road heading toward Ban Du district. Early morning visits offer the best light and quieter surroundings for walking through the compound.

The grounds are home to many cats that wander freely between the buildings, adding an unexpected element to the temple experience. These animals are part of the place's character and are cared for by the monks.
