Wat Chong Nonsi

Wat Chong Nonsi is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok's Chong Nonsi district featuring a modern cruciform ubosot alongside an ancient prayer hall with lotus-shaped windows. The complex blends historical structures with contemporary design in a space dedicated to spiritual devotion.

The temple originates from the late Ayutthaya period, before Bangkok became Thailand's capital. Its roots lie in an era marked by artistic and architectural development.

The ancient ubosot's interior walls display preserved murals showing Buddhist teachings and scenes from the Ayutthaya era. These artworks tell stories that visitors discover while exploring the temple's sacred spaces.

The temple sits on Rama III Road and can be reached through an alley along the canal or from Soi 30 of Naratthiwat Rajanagarindra Avenue. Exploring both routes helps visitors find the entrance that works best for their route.

Traditional wooden monks' quarters called Kuti stand in sharp contrast to the modern Bangkok skyline visible from the temple grounds. This side-by-side presence of old and new architecture creates an unexpected visual tension in the urban setting.
