Sarazm

Sarazm is an excavated settlement spread across a vast area, displaying residential structures, craft workshops, and storage facilities. The remains date to the 4th millennium BC and reveal how people lived in this early urban center.

A local farmer discovered this site in 1976 during construction work, uncovering an important ancient settlement. The excavations that followed revealed early metalworking practices that developed in this region.

The objects discovered here reveal how people exchanged goods across distant lands, with pottery, tools, and metal products traveling from different regions. These trade routes connected remote places in ways that shaped daily life at the settlement.

Protective roofs cover the main excavation areas, allowing visitors to observe the remains even in poor weather. A nearby museum displays the objects recovered during the dig.

The people here processed turquoise and developed irrigation methods using water from the nearby river, showing how they adapted to their surroundings. This mix of trade and local resources made this location a key hub.
