Victory Park, War memorial park in Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Victory Park is a memorial complex on elevated ground featuring an eternal flame monument and commemorative sculptures set among extensive green spaces with many fir trees. The grounds spread across different levels, offering views out over the city below.
The site was built in 1975 to honor 60,000 Tajik soldiers who died during World War II. Architect Bahovadin Zuhurdinov designed the complex, which has served as a major memorial place since then.
The memorial displays names of Tajik soldiers honored as Soviet war heroes. Visitors see these names carved into stone, paying respect to those recognized for their bravery.
The site is best reached on foot, with the path leading uphill and requiring time to walk. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and prepare for different elevation changes and shifting weather.
During Navruz festival, the grounds are decorated with tens of thousands of flowers, turning the war memorial into a colorful spring garden. This yearly contrast between mourning and bloom creates a striking moment in the annual cycle.
