Gurminj Museum of Musical Instruments

The Gurminj Museum holds about 100 musical instruments from the Pamiri and Badakhshani regions of Tajikistan. The collection features stringed instruments including the rubab and tar, along with drums such as the doyra and tabl.

The museum opened in 1990, founded on the collection that Gurminj Zavkibekov, a National Artist of Tajikistan, had gathered during travels across the country. His work to preserve these instruments created an institution devoted to regional music traditions.

The museum is named after Gurminj Zavkibekov, a respected musician whose dedication to traditional music shaped what visitors see today. Walking through the rooms, you encounter instruments that tell the story of Pamiri and Badakhshani musical life in the region.
