Hisar Fortress sits on a hilltop between two mountain ranges, featuring a massive entrance gate, thick fortified walls, and multiple structures spread across the site. The fortress was founded around 500 BC during the Achaemenid Empire and was rebuilt many times after invasions destroyed it. The structures show how the site changed over centuries as different rulers adapted it to their needs and times.
The complex holds two Islamic schools and a mosque from the 8th century, with the older school now serving as a museum displaying objects from Tajik history.
