Pamir Stadium, Football stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Pamir Stadium is a football ground in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, with a natural grass pitch and seating for around 24,000 spectators. It serves as the home ground of FC Istiklol and also hosts matches for the Tajikistan national team.
Construction began in 1939 during the Soviet era and the ground opened in 1946, becoming the first major sports facility in the capital. It marked the start of organized sport in Dushanbe.
The stadium takes its name from the Pamir Mountains, which carry deep meaning for people across Tajikistan. On match days for FC Istiklol, the stands fill with fans singing and waving flags, making the energy inside unmistakable.
The stadium sits right next to the Dushanbe Zoo, which makes it easy to spot and reach from the city center. Arriving a little early on match days is a good idea, as the streets around the venue can get crowded before kickoff.
Despite renovations in 1962, 2007, and 2010, the stadium has kept its original Soviet-era layout and has never moved from its founding location. This makes it one of the few large sports venues in Central Asia that has operated continuously in the same spot since the 1940s.
