Dushanbe Zoo

Dushanbe Zoo sits along the Luchob River near Pamir Stadium and houses a collection of animals from different climates and regions. The grounds include separate sections for various species, with both enclosed areas and open spaces for visitors to walk through.

The zoo was founded in 1960 and grew into an established institution over the following decades. During the Soviet period, the facility expanded significantly and became a recognized place for nature education in the region.

The zoo serves as a major gathering place where families and school groups come to observe animals from around the world that do not naturally inhabit the country. It plays an important role in introducing residents to wildlife diversity.

The zoo is open daily and visitors should allow plenty of time to explore the different sections at a comfortable pace. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended since there is considerable walking involved to view the various animal areas.

The mild climate of Dushanbe allows tropical animals to be kept outdoors year-round without special winter protection. This feature makes the facility unusual for the region, as creatures from warmer zones can inhabit open spaces during all seasons.
